Packing the House? Keep These 5 Items Available on Moving Day

Approximately 5.67 million homes will be sold by Americans this year.

That’s a lot of moving! And if you’re one of those people, you know just how stressful moving is.

By now, you’ve researched and implemented any and every packing hack to make your move easier but, on moving day, there are some things you need to keep on hand.

Read on to see which moving essentials you need to take with you in the car rather than the moving truck.

1. Cleaning Supplies

The last thing you want to do is move your new items into a dirty home. While you hope that the former homeowners cleaned before they moved out, you can never be sure.

Make sure that you keep your essential cleaning supplies on hand and not packed away.

Here are a few things you should consider leaving out:

  • Multi-purpose cleaning spray and wipes
  • Towels, washcloths or rags
  • Broom and dustpan

With these cleaning supplies, you can make sure you aren’t placing items in dusty cabinets or using a bathroom left dirty by the previous owners.

2. Chargers

An essential moving day tip is to keep chargers and external battery packs close by.

While you may start your day off with full batteries on your phone and laptops, their batteries will quickly drain during moving day. You’ll find yourself spending your day calling family members for help, watching tutorial videos to take apart last-minute furniture, or using maps to navigate an unfamiliar neighborhood.

When that low-battery icon comes across your screen, and you’ve still got more moving to do, you’ll be thankful your charger is nearby.

3. Toolbox

Your toolbox is one of the most important things you need when moving.

Between taking apart items, before unpacking them and putting them together again in your new home, you’ll want your tools accessible. While you won’t need all your tools handy, you should prepare a small toolbox with essential items.

Here are a few tools to keep handy:

  • Hammer
  • Screwdriver
  • Utility knife
  • Measuring tape

While these tools may not seem necessary now, it’s always better to have them on hand just in case.

4. Toiletries

When packing your moving essentials box, don’t forget the toiletries.

After a long day of moving, you’ll be sweaty and ready for a shower and sleep. The last thing you want to do is search through your boxes to find your toiletries.

Make sure to keep a bath towel, toothbrush, soap, and medications in an easy-to-find location. Also, never move into a home without toilet paper handy!

5. Safety Items

Moving is already stressful, but an emergency takes that stress to a whole new level. Prepare yourself for any emergency that may arise.

A few safety items to keep track of include:

  • Flashlight
  • First aid kit
  • Fire extinguisher

While you hope you’ll never need them, you’ll be thankful you thought ahead if a situation does occur.

Don’t Forget the Moving Essentials

Now that you know all about these five moving essentials, your move will be less stressful.
